Project Description

Newhouse Barn in Isfield, East Sussex is a Grade II Listed Barn that was restored and converted into a single dwelling. The works took more than a year to complete. The proposal included the demolition of two adjacent barns that were replaced by two dwellings under Wealden District Council’s “flexible approach” which allowed barns that were capable of conversion to be replaced with a new structure rather than seeking to convert the existing building where this would lead to an architectural enhancement. The sale of the two dwellings provided additional funding towards the restoration and conversion works of the listed barn.

Newhouse Barn was recently the subject of a District Council Members site visit and the response from both the visiting Councillors and planning officers was very positive and many considered that the conversion of Newhouse Barn set a very high bench mark for other similar schemes to follow.
